ANGEL Chapter 37 & 38

Hey guys,

Ara here.

I finally managed to finish the latest chapter of ANGEL. It was a difficult chapter to write, in fact the series has been getting more and more challenging as it comes closer to the conclusion.

I believe that we are only two or three chapters out from the end of ANGEL. However even I don't know if that's how things will turn out. We'll just have to wait and see.

So chapter 37 is now available for free and chapter 38 is up for my lovely Patreons.

If you'd like to join my Patreon and support the site and my work, please follow the link below.

I'm still evolving my chapter previews. Please let me know what you think!

Hey Kie, can you tell me more about the Source?

Seriously? That's the last thing I want to talk about.

Oh, sorry. I was just curious.

I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable.

*Sigh* On second thought it's better you hear it from me than Alt'ka.

I'll give you a brief overview.

The Source is a power that connects Rek'hath to their ancestors. It allows the departed to be able to advise the current generation.

However few Rek'hath have the ability to tap into the Source and hear the voices of their ancestors.

Only Matriarchs, or females, have been able to make contact with the Source. It's not known why, but this made the Matriarchs much more powerful than their male counterparts, so up until the great war with the ANGELS the Matriarchs had control over Rek'hath society.

That seems unfair.

Damn straight it is, or was.

The ANGELS killed all but one of our Matriarchs, or so the stories go.

That was Gabriella and Michael, right?

Yeah.

Thanks to that Rek'hath society was set back quite a way.

Until we developed a third gender.

What do you call the other gender?

Old traditions stick, unfortunately.

If it isn't a Matriarch it is male and therefore doesn't matter.

But they can bear children can't they, isn't that the more important thing?

Not for us. The most important thing in Rek'hath culture is the potential to link to the Source.

That makes no sense. I understand that your ancestors are important, and having a way to access their wisdom would be amazing. But surely the Rek'hath continuing as a species is more important then their

heritage.

You're preaching to the choir on that one, Dyson, trust me.

It was said that the original Matriarchs were able to harness other powers from the Source.

Now days Matriarchs are rare and they have lost the knowledge that we once had. I'm not sure how it could be lost when they can connect with the ancestors, guess that the connection is also weaker now.

That's unfortunate.

Not really.

Back in the days of the Matriarchs, men were practically treated like slaves.

It was all because of the Source.

Even now our laws dictate that males must follow a Matriarch's orders. The only way to avoid it is to seek permission from an older Matriarch.

Before the war there was no room for negotiation, the Matriarch's word was the law.

Wow. That's a terrible way to run a- civilization or anything.

No wonder you're not a fan of the Source.

I guess power doesn't just corrupt humans.

It's true. But you guys are more susceptible to that sort of power trip.

Historically speaking of course.

It's annoying that I have no argument to that.

What do you think?

I've made a few of these character pixel toons and I hope to use them in more little snippets like this. Please let me know if you'd like to see more of them.

That's all from me for now. I'll be back soon with that new chapter of Thief's Log.

Ta-ta.
